- This is a picture I took is a sculpture of a human face.
one side shows a the skull and the inside of the face, while
the other side shows the outside of a human face.

-Noh mask- kumasaka


What materials have been used to make this mask?
- Wood


What processes have been used to create this mask?
- this mask has also been carved and carefully painted for effect by Suzuki Nohjiu. the designer of the mask has also carefully painted gold on the eyes of the mask.


How has the target (performance) group for the mask influenced its design and creation?
-the kumasaka mask represents the face of the thief, or bandit, chief, in Noh Theatre to craete drama for the audience watching the play the mask is used in

- This mask is called a biomba mask

what materials have been used to make this mask?
-this mask is made from wood and coloured with red " tukula powder" which is a dye made from a camwood tree.

What processes have been used to create this mask?
-the mask has been carved and coloured with tukula powder.

How has the target (performance) group for the mask influenced its design and creation?
-This mask has been influenced by african tribal art. it is also used in ceremonies and tribal rituals.

- It Has Been Carved And Painted with a stricking red colour with the features on the mask painted in black.


How has the target (performance) group for the mask influenced its design and creation?
-the mask is based on  the violent emotions of the characters found in Noh plays in japanese theatre.

Summary of Lesson 04/11/10

In Today's Lesson we were introduced to unit 3: artefact. we started our research on the topic and read through the guide. we also researched a man named otto dix who was a man that sketched drawings of gruesome events that took place in the world war in germany.


In the second half of the lesson, we did research on different masks of different cultures on the V&A Website. we also answered a variety of questions which is shown on paper and placed onto our blogs.

How has the target (performance) group for the mask influenced its design and creation?
- It has been inspired by japanese theatre and a made up imaginary man called hanakobu akujo who the mask is named after and is described as a bumpy nosed fierce man who is full of character and vitality
